- You're modem is returning the DTE speed (speed at which you're
- modem is talking to the computer it's hooked up to). You need to change
- one of the settings in the modem so that it will return the DCE speed
- (speed at which you're modem is talking to the other modem). I'm assuming
- you're using a Rockwell based modem (about the only modems I know of that
- report DTE rate in the connect string by default), in which case you
- should try changing the S95 setting from the default of 0 to 1 (ie add
- S95=1 to your init string). Alternatively you can set S95=47, which will
- return all the info about the connection like:
-
- CARRIER: 28800
-
- PROTOCOL: LAPM
-
- COMPRESSION: V42BIS
-
- CONNECT: 28800/ARQ
-
- With protocol being the error control protocol and compression
- being the data compression protocol in use.
-
- One last note, don't be too suprised if you're 28.8 modem doesn't
- report CONNECT 28800, but instead reports CONNECT 26400 or CONNECT 24000
- or something like that. Not all phone lines are good enough to support
- 28.8 connections for oen reason or another.
